Biosecurity
Statement
At Turkey Creek Alpacas,
we strive to maintain a healthy herd. Together with our vet we have formed a
herd management plan for our particular geographic area. With the information
and concern about the *bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) in 2006, we have taken
steps to insure that our herd has not been infected.
-
All of our
alpacas under the age of 2 and our herdsires have been polymerase chain
reaction (PCR) tested.
-
All guest alpacas
brought to our farm for any purpose must have a fecal sample tested just prior
to arriving showing negative for parasites. The results must be provided on
letterhead and signed by a registered veterinarian.
-
All guest alpacas
must have had a PCR test performed for BVDV by a certified animal health
diagnostic center. A copy of the negative results must be provided prior to,
or at time of arrival.
-
All guest alpacas
will be kept in a quarantine area for 40 days or for the duration of their
stay on our farm.
-
While in
quarantine, we wash our hands prior to entering and prior to leaving the
quarantine area. We also utilize a disinfecting foot bath both before and
after entering.
We have taken these steps to ensure our
customers that their animals and/or any animals purchased from our farm have
been cared for to the best of our ability.
We ask those visiting our farm to please respect our
biosecurity by wearing clean clothes and footwear that have not been in contact
with any other livestock. |
